Chastain Park Conservancy Park Stewardship Internship

Location: Chastain Park, Atlanta, GA

Commitment: Flexible schedule, 100 hours total. 100 hours must be completed within three months of start date. Minimum of one full 8 hour day per week or similar required.  Work will be performed Monday – Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm.

Compensation: $1000 stipend possible based on performance and successful completion of duties assigned.

About the Internship:
Join the Operations Team at Chastain Park Conservancy and gain hands-on experience in park management and environmental stewardship. This internship offers an opportunity to work alongside our dedicated operations team, learning what it takes to maintain and improve one of Atlanta’s most beloved public parks.

What You Will Learn:

– Park Maintenance: Assist with landscaping, trail upkeep, and general park beautification.

– Environmental Stewardship: Learn sustainable practices for managing green spaces. Gain experience restoring forested areas by removing invasive plants and improving habitat for wildlife.

– Project Coordination: Support ongoing park improvement projects and volunteer workdays.  Interns may be tasked with leading small groups of volunteers in park maintenance activities.

– Equipment Handling: Gain experience using gas and battery powered landscaping equipment essential for park maintenance.

– Community Engagement: Work alongside volunteers and park visitors to foster a welcoming environment.

Responsibilities:
This internship is both a learning experience and a role with real world responsibilities. Your ability to perform your assigned duties impact the public’s experience at the park and our organization’s standing with the community.

  • Perform duties as assigned by the Director of Operations and Chastain Park Conservancy staff.
  • Supports groundskeeping efforts by safely using tools and power equipment with attention to detail.
  • Supports environmental conservation work in forested areas by identifying native, invasive and hazardous plant species, performing mechanical removal of target plants while safely maneuvering uneven terrain.
  • Supports park beautification efforts by mulching, pruning, pulling weeds and watering garden beds.
  • Supports volunteer program by leading volunteers in park maintenance activities.

Ideal Candidate:

– Passionate about the outdoors, parks, and community service.

– Reliable, hardworking, and eager to learn.

– Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.

– Able to lift moderate weight and perform physical tasks.

-Access to reliable transportation to the park.
