The Race is On – Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead TriPATHlon!

Start training – the race is on! Chastain Park Conservancy, Path Foundation and Chastain Park Civic Association partner to bring the first Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead “triPATHlon” event to Chastain Park.

TriPATHlon is a unique, intown fully sanctioned USTA sprint triathlon and will benefit the coordinating sponsors – Chastain Park Conservancy, PATH Foundation and Chastain Park Athletic Club. The race is scheduled for May 8th at 7:30 AM and includes a 400 yard swim in the Chastain Park pool, a 15-mile bike ride through one of Atlanta’s most beautiful neighborhoods around the Park and concludes with a 5K run on the Chastain Park PATH.

“The unique part of this race is being able to have all segments of Atlanta’s first in-town triathlon at the Chastain Park, said “Gip Johnston, CPC Executive Director. “Chastain Park is a valued resource to the people of Atlanta and we hope everyone will come out and support this great event.”

The entry fee is $75 for USAT members and $85 for non-members. Registration is limited to 550 participants. To register, click here. Participants must be at least 13 years old by 5/08/11 to compete.

If you’re not able to compete but would like to be a part of the excitement, there are opportunities for volunteers to assist with the race. Sign up to volunteer here.

March Membership Madness at Chastain

Learn about new projects and renew your membership.

Sure as the dogwoods and azaleas bloom each spring, you will find us in the park this in March and April. It’s time to renew your membership in the Chastain Park Conservancy, if you haven’t already for 2011, and learn about new projects and developments!

Conservancy Board members will occupy a tent at the corner of Powers Ferry and Wieuca (in front of our new tennis center) on Saturdays, 10 am – 5 pm and Sundays, 12 pm – 4 pm, beginning March 12 and ending April 10. We’re seeking new members and helping existing members renew. We’ll also

show and tell about all that’s happened in 2010 and what we’ll

be doing in 2011.

Last year, we grew membership to 650 from 500, a 30% increase. Our goal is to do at least that well this year. We hope you will stop and visit. The park has never looked better. We have a lot to tell you, but would especially appreciate hearing your thoughts.

An Exciting Wintery Day At Chastain Park

Can this really be Atlanta? Many Atlantans were homebound from the unusually snowy weather that hit the region in early January. Others took advantage of the time off to enjoy the snowy Chastain Park. Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Chastain Park Tennis Center

The City of Atlanta and Chastain Park Conservancy are pleased to announce a groundbreaking ceremony for the start of construction of the new Chastain Park Tennis Center. The ceremony will take place at the tennis center (southeastern corner of Powers Ferry Road and Wieuca Road) on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 11 o’clock in the morning. Our new mayor, Mr. Kasim Reed, along with members of the City Council and Board members of the CPC will make remarks. All members of the community are encouraged to attend.

The new Chastain Tennis Center is one of the first of the major capital improvements set forth in the 2008 Master Plan approved by the City Council during the Franklin administration. The Astra Group will serve as contractor, and construction is projected to be complete in July 2010. The center’s tennis courts will be resurfaced but will remain open during construction and temporary offices will be established on site.

Consistent with the 2008 Master Plan’s emphasis on sustainability, the City has applied for certification of the tennis center as an Earthcraft building meaning it reaches certain criteria as a green, energy efficient building and is similar to a LEED certification. SouthFace will conduct periodic inspections during construction to be able to grant the Earthcraft certification to the City on completion. The Conservancy will assist the replanting of new trees to replace those damaged or removed due to construction.

The Chastain Park Conservancy and the PATH foundation will coordinate the slight rerouting of the PATH at the corner of Powers Ferry and Wieuca Road to ensure safety during construction. If you are coming to Chastain Park to walk or play tennis, the Conservancy would like to encourage you to park in the Red Lot (corner of Powers Ferry and Stella at the amphitheatre) and walk down to the courts to keep as much traffic out of the intersection as possible. Please use caution and look for new signs directing pedestrians in this area.

Fundraiser a great success

The Chastain Fundraiser was a great success!

The food and fare were excellent, the atmosphere superb. Over 200 attendees had a wonderful time dancing, listening to jazz, and shopping for remarkable items at the silent auction.

Thanks to Cinema Concepts and all of our generous sponsors and silent auction donators. We all appreciated the amazing food and refreshments from the following restaurants: Aja • Chops • Chopsticks • C&S Seafood • 5 Seasons Brewery • Food 101 • Horseradish Grill • Sean’s American Bistro.

Best of all, we raised more money this year than ever before. So good to know that others value Chastain Park as much as we do. We’re now going full speed ahead on the next phase of Master Plan improvements.
